Print Services

Letterpress

Specialty raised plates are created of your artwork and pressed directly into paper, resulting in a visible and tactile impression.

  • Great for deep impression and intricate detail.
  • Ink can be mixed into any color imaginable.
  • Is more cost effective compared to foil stamping.
  • Not a good option for printing on heavily colored papers.

Hot Foil Stamping

Foil printing is very similar to letterpress but differs in that it uses heated metal plates to transfer metallic, clear or colored foils onto paper. Foil is the option for those looking for that signature metallic shimmer or those seeking to print on color paper.

  • Best for printing metallic on any paper or high contrast on colored paper.
  • Great for small type and details.
  • More expensive than letterpress.
  • Colors are limited to available commercial foils.

Embossing

Embossing offers that unique effect of having your designs literally raise off the paper. By passing sheets through a press loaded with a set of dies you can achieve this impressive effect.

  • Raised printing.
  • Can be combined with foil.
  • Our most costly process.

Die-Cutting

Die-Cutting allows us to cut paper into unique shapes by using special made cutting dies.

  • Unique shapes of you cards or paper!
  • Can cut very thick papers
  • Can cut many sheets very precisely for any number of volumes.
  • Unfortunately it can be costly if only low quantities are needed.

Finishing Services

Some projects require a little extra work beyond the printing itself. We offer a number of (mostly hand-done) services that can be used in conjunction with your project to give it that final finish.

  • Scoring
  • Duplexing (gluing sheets together)
  • Edge Painting
  • Envelope lining
  • Hand Assembly

Frequently Asked Questions

I have a design! Can you print it?

We’d love to! It’s important to keep in mind though that some of our printing techniques have unique requirements so if you’re not familiar with them it’s best to consult with us as early in the design process as possible.

Actually, can you help me with the design?

Yes we can! We started as designers before falling in love with printing so we’d be happy to help with design. We treat it separately from the printing phase though, so cost and timeframe will need to be discussed and agreed upon first and foremost.

How much does it cost?

There are simply too many factors involved for us to be able to answer this BUT here are a few examples so hopefully you can get an idea of our pricing.

100 Letterpress Business Cards, 1 Color Ink, 1 Side: $160

50 Letterpress 5×7 Invitations, 1 Color Ink, 1 Side: $295

250 Foil Stamped Hang Tags, 1 Foil, 1 Side: $500

What are my paper and envelope options?

Because of the sheer number of colors, weights and sizes of paper available, we do not keep a specific in-house inventory on hand. Rather, we try to match the best paper for your individual needs of the project and order it in directly.

How long is your turnaround?

Our standard turnaround is 10-12 business days. There are occasions where we require more time due to being over-booked or if something is on backorder for example, however we will always inform you at the beginning if these circumstances apply.

How do I need to setup my files?

Our preference is an editable PDF, but if that’s not possible or if you require assistance just let us know and we’ll try to accommodate in any way we can.

  • Artwork should be final size; if you want a 5” x 7”, your artboard should be set at 5” x 7”.
  • If your artwork requires a bleed (i.e. if your art has parts that go all the way to the edge of the paper), in your document settings, set the bleed to .125” on each side and extend your artwork to the edge of the bleed line.
  • All fonts in your files should be converted to outlines.
  • The minimum line-width for letterpress and foil is 0.3. If your lines are thinner than this, they will not properly print. You can measure this in Adobe Illustrator using the pen tool.
  • If your order includes a piece(s) that has more than one print process or ink color, please label and identify as clearly as possible to avoid any mistakes or confusion.
  • If your project includes envelope printing, please provide us with a mockup that shows where specifically on the envelope you would like your artwork to be placed. We can provide you with a template of your envelope if needed.

Can you print addresses on envelopes?

We can letterpress or foil print return addresses on envelopes, however, recipient addresses must be flat printed. Unique printing plates would be required and the cost would be far too excessive for the average client.

What is the minimum quantity I can order?

We don’t have minimum orders, though it’s very important to note that a large majority of what we charge is for the materials and time required to print even just one piece. It’s therefor very inefficient to print quantities smaller than around 40. Quantities of at least 100 tend to be about right and become increasingly cost effective as quantity increases.

How do I know the color will be correct? Do I need a Pantone book?

In our shop we use the Pantone Solid Uncoated book to ensure that inks are mixed to perfectly match your intended color. Having one or borrowing one is most ideal, however, they are quite expensive and we understand some folks just won’t need to use it often enough to rationalize the purchase. If that’s the case and if you can’t come down to the shop to pick in-person, the best we can do is try our best to match an ink from your design file. We’ve very very rarely received complaints, but do be aware that you are assuming the risk if the color isn’t perfection. If it needs to be perfect, get your hands on a Pantone book!

How is payment handled?

When the time is right we’ll email you a portal to a secure payment platform. If you’re a new client, we require a 50% deposit. For existing clients, payment can be made upon delivery except in the circumstances of extra-large orders.
